Reborn!

So, Valiant was restarted with a whole new look to it. It was originally meant to look like Arena or Daggerfall - but I decided I didn't like that, so now it's going for a more Diablo-look (at least what I know of Diablo)

It's still very early, but the principles of its point-and-click seem almost done.
Clicking on tiles will have the player move towards them.
Clicking on enemies will have the player move towards them

Although there are a couple more errors to fix here before moving on to the combat system I have planned,
Clicking on enemies renders tiles un-clickable, once to select one you cant move after that.
Clicking on tiles has the player look at that tile - as it should - but the player rotates long the X-axis too (that is to say, rotates down)
The player really does look at the target tile

Although I'm not expecting this should be too hard to fix - the real problem seems to be that clicking on targets renders tiles unusable, but keeps the other target attackable, the tiles and target both have more or less the same clicking script

So that's that, all going smoothly

Sure did

As the scrolls had foretold, all the data is lost. And while the redesign may not be spectacular, its certainly a big improvement! Only one week to do it, but it shouldn't be too hard.

Screenshots going up soon as there are any available!

Oh dear...

All data on this game may be lost due to carelessnes.
This is both a bad thing and a good thing;
A bad thing because I have to start again,
a good thing because I get to start again! (Was planning to, all the assets were getting a bit cluttered)

However, there is only a week and a half available to finish it. This could mean a whole redesign on the project, or it going back to the way it was. If it gets redesigned, expect something spectacular!

Slow development...

Spent 4 hours working so far today. What have I accomplished? The monsters are no longer boxes, they are slightly unusual shapes.
They do have a smoke effect on them now though
One day, these may look like traditional ghosts...
Thats all there is to say for today.

Should have done this earlier...

Well, here is the official blog for the development of the upcoming hack 'n slash game 'Valiant'.
This blog really should have been started earlier, as the game is quite far in development. That isn't to say it's anywhere near ready - there is a lot left to do.

So let's begin with an introduction, shall we?

A very long time ago, in a small village sitting in the shadow of the great forest, with no other civilization for miles around, life seemed perfect - and it almost was...

For the residents lived in fear of the nearby tomb the renowned necromancer of the forgotten ages was slain on demand of the king himself. If the people looked hard enough from the safety of their windows they could make out a faint glow from the tomb entrance.

One day, an unheard of adventurer finds himself in this village, skeptical of the stories the local tavern's regulars tell him of the village's curse. Eager to prove them wrong, the adventurer bravely steps into the tomb...

Does he come out? is he brave enough to make it to the end? and what lies down there? That is for you to find out!

Can you tell that had been improvised after 1am? probably.

So, how far is it?
The levels have been finished, the enemies approach the player. That's it really. The enemies aren't even made yet.

Deadly boxes approach our gallant hero
As you may or may not have noticed from the given images, it has a classical texture look to it (It's not trying to look like minecraft textures)

I repeat, NOT minecraft!

That's all there is to say now, really. Next up is to add some kind of combat system. After that, who knows? This may evolve into a full blown RPG if time permits!
